Locked Layer
Ensures that the user can not change the layer in Adobe Photoshop. Usually is seen as a padlock next to the layer.

Type Layer
A layer that holds type that is created

Shape Layer
A layer that contains vector-based shapes.

Layer Mask
An overlay of a layer that allows you to make visual changes to the layer without actually changing the layer itself. While in this, you can paint white to reveal additional parts of the layer or paint black to conceal.

Smart Objects
Contain image data from raster or vector images and allow for nondestructive transforms

Pixel Layers

Adjustment Layers

Non-Destructive Editing
The process of editing an image that preserves its original forms. ex: Masking, Adjustment Layers, Smart Objects

Type Style
A variation on a typeface such as bold, italics or normal
.JPEG
a graphic image saved using a lossy compression technique that discards some data during the compression process and is best suited for images with smooth variations of tone and color. Best suited for Photos
.PNG
a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. used in Microsoft applications
.RAW
The uncompressed original file format of a digital camera
.SVG
a web-friendly vector file format. Best for large document formats.
.EPS
a type of vector image file. Best for commercial printing
RGB
Color mode where each pixel is assigned an intensity value from 0 (black) to 255 (white) for viewing on a screen

CYMK
Color mode where each pixel is assigned a percentage value for each of the process inks. Good for printing.

Leading
Controls the amount of space between lines of type

Kerning
Controls the space between two specific characters

Tracking
Sets the amount of space between a range of characters.

Iterative Sketch
A rough mock-up of design approaches for the project, which can change over time. Allows the designer to gain feedback
Color Mode
working space profile associated with the file. It can be changed to meet output needs
