Carius method
A technique for the estimation of halogens where a known mass of an organic compound is heated with fuming HNO3 and AgNO3 in a sealed tube.
Fuming HNO3
An oxidizing agent used in the Carius method to oxidize carbon, hydrogen, and sulphur into CO2, H2O, and SO2.
Silver halide (AgX)
The precipitate formed when halogens from an organic compound combine with AgNO3 during the Carius process.
Carius tube
A clean tube used for the reaction involving fuming HNO3 and AgNO3 that is sealed at the open end and placed in an iron tube.
Carius method duration
The amount of time, specifically 5 hours, that the Carius tube is placed in the iron tube during heating.
Carius method temperature range
The specific heating range of 530−540K used for the sealed Carius tube inside the iron tube.
Chlorine content in AgCl
According to the transcript, 143.5g of AgCl contains 35.5g of Cl.
Percentage of Cl formula
143.5×w35.5×a×100%, where a is the weight of AgCl precipitate and w is the weight of the organic compound.

BaSO4 precipitate in Sulfur estimation
In problem 6, the mass of BaSO4 (0.35g) formed from 0.16g of an organic compound treated with BaCl2 to find the percentage of sulphur.
