EEG
(electroencephalograph). Sends electrical signals into brain, to see if it triggers something, measures brain wave activity.Measures the whole brain and is functional.
Can detect tumors and epilepsy.
fMRI
(functional magnetic resonance imaging). Used to measure activity in the brain when the neurons are consuming oxygen. Can measure levels of oxygen rich blood when brain is active. It is functional.
Used for measuring visual processing, reading and cognitive abilities.

MRI
(magnetic resonance imaging). Uses strong, magnetic, radio frequency pulses and computers to produce an image of the brain. It is structural. Th tissue emits a signal that’s measured.
Creates a 3D picture of the brain (or body).
CT
(computerised tomography). An x-ray that sends narrow beams through the head. It scans through 180 degrees and takes a measurement every 1 degree. Provides a cross sectional picture. It is structural.
