Slide
A method for preparing a sample for viewing under a microscope.
Forceps
Used to peel a layer of onion cells for slide preparation.
Layer of Onion Cells
Placed on the slide to provide a thin, even layer of cells and avoid air bubbles.
Iodine
Added to cells on the slide to enhance contrast and make the cell structures more visible.
Coverslip placement
Placed at a 45-degree angle to avoid air bubbles.
Lowest Objective Lens
Used to initially focus on the specimen under the light microscope.
Focus Adjustment
Increasing the distance between the slide and the objective lense until cell comes into pocus
Eyepiece
Device to measure the length of cells. Include Units.
Iodine Hazard
Eye irritation; wear goggles as a control measure
Onion Hazard
Makes you cry; wear goggles and hold away from you as control measures
Glass Hazard
Smash or break; Hold correctly and don't leave on edge of table as control measures
