What is a light microscope?
Uses compound lenses to magnify objects
Lenses bend or refract light to make the object beneath them appear closer
Common magnifications: 40X, 100X, 400X, 1000X
What is a stereoscope (organismal microscope)?
Allows for binocular viewing of larger specimens
Usually magnifies 10X to 20X
Can be used for thicker specimens
Creates a 3D view of specimen
What is a SEM/ TEM microscope?
uses a focused beam of electrons to scan the surface of a specimen, providing high-resolution, three-dimensional images
can magnifying objects up to 1,000,000X
