When O'Brien gives Winston his address, Winston is convinced that O'Brien is a member of the Brotherhood, Why do Winston and Julia visit O'Brien at his apartment?
To become members of the Brotherhood.
There is a great difference between O'Brien's home and Winston's. What does this signify?
Winston's palce was dull and plain; there was nothing special about it. O'Brien's, on the other hand contained richness and spaciousness of everything. It smelled of good food and tobacco; it had silent, rapid lifts sliding up and down, and he had servants.
What is the purpose of O'Brien's demands that Julia and Winston agree to do so many things if they are asked? What won't they do?
To show their loyalty to the party; They won't split apart if they are asked

He worked more than 90 hours in five days leading up to the commencement of Hate Week.
What is the book that Winston is reading? Who gave Winston the book and why?
Winston gets a copy of "The Book", a book written by Emmanuel Goldstein, about his political ideas. The book has three chapters titled, "War is Peace", "Ignorance is Strength" and "Freedom is Slavery", which are also the main slogans of the party.; O'Brien gives him this so he can read up on it.
Why does 1984 contain long passages from "the book"?
Orwell includes such long quotes from Goldstein's The Theory and Practice of Oligarchic Collectivism because they confirm on a different level what Winston has always thought about the Party.
What question still remains in Winston's mind after he closed "the book?"
Winston comes to question himself regarding the power of the government.
According to "the book" -- what is the actual although unstated purpose of endemic war between the three superstates?
power and control; It seems as if the three states have similar goals in controlling their people and the need for government is derived from the need to be kept safe from the other peoples.
What is the meaning of the Party slogan "War is Peace?"
This is a paradox the party wishes to instil in the outer party in particular. While Oceania is at war, which they constantly are, there must be peace within the state. Only then can Oceania be truly strong to fight the war. Everybody must be on the same side, hence internal peace, for victory. This way the Party can remain in perpetual power.
Why don't Julia and Winston realize they have overslept?
Winston awakens from what feels like a long sleep. He was exhausted and now feels rested. He looks at the clock and reads "twenty-thirty" Julia awakens and they hear the woman singing in the court-yard. It is puzzling that the fire is out, there is no coffee, and the air has turned cold. Something is off, but again, because of the clock Winston and Julia don't realize that they have over-slept.

Julia
"Victory Square, near the monument."
Julia
"Then get away from me as quick as you can."
Julia
"Never mind, dear. There's no hurry. We've got the whole afternoon. Isn't this a splendid hideout?"
Julia
"Isn't there a stream somewhere near here?"
Winston
"It's nothing, really. A landscape I've seen sometimes in a dream."
Winston
"In this game we're playing, we can't win. Some kinds of failure are better than other kinds."
Winston
"I'm not interested in the next generation, dear. I'm interested in us."
Julia
"I had been hoping for an opportunity of talking to you...you take a scholar interest in Newspeak..."
O'Brien
"If not, my servant will give you the dictionary."
O'Brien
"The proles are human beings. We are not human..."
Winston
"...but they can't make you believe it. They can't get inside you."
Julia
"Yes, everything is turned off. We are alone."
O'Brien
"Martin is one of us. Bring the drinks over here, Martin."
O'Brien
"It is called wine. You will have read about it in the books, no doubt."
O'Brien
"To our leader: To Emmanuel Goldstein."
O'Brien
"No, it is real. The brotherhood, we call it."
O'Brien
"To the past!"
Winston
