Central zone details

• Central portion of gland

• Ejaculatory ducts located here

• Cancer is rare here

Transitional zone details

• Area near urethra

• Smallest zone in young men

• The area affected by benign prostatic hypertrophy

Periurethral zone details

• Tissue that lines the prostatic urethra

• Very small area, not usually differentiated on sonography

Fibromuscular stroma detail

• Hypoechoic area next to bladder

• Small area, difficult to separate from other areas of the prostate

Anterior fibromuscular stroma

Small area of tissue that is situated on the anterior side of the prostate
