TOOL STEEL
Tool steel is a type of carbon or alloy steel known for its high hardness, wear resistance, and ability to maintain a cutting edge, making it suitable for tools and dies used in various manufacturing processes. = BH 120
HARDENING
HEATED 1000°C, QUENCHING: OIL, BH 200 - To achieve high hardness and wear resistance.
TEMPERING
HEATING 800°C , QUENCHING: OIL, BH 180 - To relieve internal stresses, increase toughness, and control the final hardness.
NOTE
hardening increasing hardness and strength through rapid cooling (quenching), and tempering balancing hardness with toughness through reheating and slower cooling
DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOW
windows which have two layers of glass with a space between them, designed to reduce loss of heat and exclude noise.
Aluminum frame windows
refer to windows where the frame, rather than the glass pane, is made of aluminum, a lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant metal, offering durability, low maintenance, and sleek design.
ELEVATOR
In wire rope construction, "right lay" refers to strands spiraling clockwise around the core, while "left lay" means strands spiral counterclockwise
Refrigeration
The process of removing heat from a space to lower its temperature.
Sensible Heat
Heat added/removed that changes the temperature only.
Latent Heat
Heat added/removed that changes the state (like from liquid to vapor) but not the temperature.
Dry Bulb Temperature (DBT)
Air temperature measured by a regular thermometer.
Wet Bulb Temperature (WBT)
Temperature recorded when a water-soaked cloth covers the bulb of a thermometer. Indicates humidity.
Relative Humidity (RH)
Ratio of the actual moisture in the air to the maximum it can hold at that temp.
Dew Point Temperature
The temp at which air becomes saturated and water vapor begins to condense.
Enthalpy (h)
Total heat content, measured in BTU/lb or kJ/kg. Common in psychrometric charts.
Coefficient of Performance (COP)
Ratio of cooling provided to electrical energy used. Higher COP = More efficient system.
Air Changes per Hour (ACH)
Number of times the air within a room is replaced in an hour.
Psychrometrics
The study of moist air properties
