Balancing Redox Reactions in acidic solutions
1.) Split into 2 half equations
2.) Balance all atoms except H and O
3.) To balance 0 add H20 and to balance H add protons
4.) Balance electrically by adding electrons to the greater side
5.) Multiply each half reaction by some common factor to ensure each side has equal electrons
6.) Add two half reactions together and simplify
12
New cards
oxidizing agent
ion or molecule that accepts electrons (reduced)
13
New cards
reducing agent
ion or molecules that donates electrons (oxidized)
