diffusion

acculturation

secondary innovation

ethnocide

eradication of an ethnic group's collective, distinctive cultural identity: a dominant society deliberately destroys it

assimilation

absorption of an ethnic minority, culturally, by a dominant society

tradition

accommodation

process wherein a people resists integration by modifying its customary culture, preserving its ethnic identity

cargo cult

movement of spiritual nature (especially in Melanesia) reacting to Western capitalism, promising utopian riches

insurgency

resistance that is armed, organized, or a violent uprising, against established government or authority

revolution

change in society/culture that is radical. Politically, involves forced overthrow of existing government, establishing new

modernization

process of political, socioeconomic change, whereby developing societies acquire cultural characteristics of Western industrial societies
