Sensorimotor stage (birth to age 2)
children only understand the world through sensory contact and immediate action because they cannot engage in symbolic thought or use language.
Pre-operational stage (2-7)
children use words as mental symbols and develop the ability to use mental images
Concrete Operational stage(7-11)
Children think in terms of tangible objects and real events; they can come to a conclusion about the consequences of an action without doing it.
Formal Operational Stage (12 through adolesecence)
Teens can engage in highly abstract thoughts and understand places, things, and events they’ve never experienced before.
Piaget’s 4 stages of Cognitive development
the stages of mental development up to adolescence. Children typically progress with age.
Lawrence Kohlberg’s 3 stages of Development
3 stages which you progress upon as you age. The third stage is rarely achieved by adults.
Pre-conventional level (7-10)
Children perceive actions as good or bad. Bad behavior leads to punishment and good behavior is obedience and avoids those consequences.
Conventional Level (10-Adulthood)
people are concerned about how they are seen by others, and how someone conforms to the rules of society.
Post-conventional Level (few people will make it here)
Morality is viewed by individual rights; your actions are done in a humane and moral way that transcends governmental laws. Human Rights are what are important here.
Socialization
interactions with other people.
Feral and Isolated children
children that did not receive early socialization from their family that go on to struggle in basic actions like talking and walking on two legs. Sometimes they’re abandoned and raised by animals which leads to animal-like behavior.
Agents of socialization
categories of groups that one socializes with (family, peers, coworkers, etc)
How did the show and tell reflect early childhood socialization?
The toys brought in and the experiences shared reflect upon how the person became who they are today. The toys were symbols of early childhood socialization by helping kids better understand the world they live in.
