Learning that persists. Info that has been encoded, stored, and retrieved.
Recall
One of the three retention measures: Retrieving info that is not in your conscious, like a fill in the blank test
Recognition
One for the retention measures: Identifying terms recently learned, like an MCQ
Relearning
One of the three retention measures: Learning something again much more quickly, like studying for the finals
Parallel processing
Doing multiple things simultaneously in your brain
Multi-store model
Model that includes sensory memory, short-term memory and long-term memory
Sensory Memory
First step of the MSM, recording info as a fleeting very brief recording
Short-term memory
Second step in the MSM, briefly activated memory later stored or forgotten.
Long-term memory
Third step in the MSM, after rehearsal of encoding short-term, it is the permanent archive of the memory system like skills and experiences
Working Memory
Stages where short and long term memory combine, where our brain actively Processes vital info by linking our experiences with our long term memories. (extension of short term)
Central executive
Main memory component of working mem. that coordinates the phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad activities
Phonological loop
Memory component of the CE that briefly holds auditory info like repeating a phone number out loud while typing it
Visuospatial sketchpad
Component of the CE that briefly holds info about objects and their relation in space like where you parked your car
Neurogenesis
Formation of new neurons from thinking or learning something
Long-Term Potentiation (LTP)
Process where neurons get a stronger connection when they fire together over and over
