Georgia State Board of Pharmacy membership

Consists of eight (8) members who are commissioned by the Governor.

Assistant Executive Director of the Board

In the absence of the Executive Director, the Director of the Georgia Drugs and Narcotic Agency (GDNA) shall serve in this role and possess all the powers of the Executive Director.

NAPLEX minimum score

Candidates for a Georgia license are required to make a minimum grade of $75$ on the examination.

Pharmacy Internship experience requirements

Applicants for licensure by examination must complete $1500$ hours of pharmacy internship or its equivalent as provided by the Board.

Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEC)

An examination administered by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy that graduates of foreign schools must pass to be deemed qualified for licensure.

Pharmacy Internship license validity

Licenses shall be valid for five (5) years or until the intern is expelled, suspended, dismissed, withdraws from school, becomes a licensed pharmacist, or fails the Board examination for the third time.

Transitioning service member

A member of the military on active-duty status or on separation leave who is within $24$ months of retirement or $12$ months of separation.

Pharmacist license renewal deadline

Each pharmacist license will expire and must be renewed by December 31st of the even-numbered years.

Late renewal period and fee

Licenses may be late renewed by January 31st following the deadline by payment of the current renewal fee plus an additional late renewal fee of $50\%$ of the renewal fee.

Continuing Pharmacy Education (C.E.) requirement

A requirement for the biennial renewal of a license where a pharmacist must complete not less than thirty (30) hours of approved continuing education or $3.0$ C.E.U.'s.

C.E.U. definition

One hour of C.E. is defined as $0.1$ C.E.U.

Coded prescription

A prescription bearing letters, numbers, words, or symbols used in lieu of the name, quantity, strength, and directions for use, other than media recognized by the profession of pharmacy.

Pharmacy license expiration

Licenses shall be renewed every two years and expire on June 30th of each odd year.

Nonresident Pharmacy toll-free telephone number

A number for patient counseling that must be operational during regular hours for a minimum of $60$ hours per week, not less than six days per week.

Wholesale distribution 'Emergency medical reasons' exception

Includes transfers of prescription drugs by a retail pharmacy to another pharmacy or practitioner, provided total sales do not exceed five percent ($5\%$) of the total dosage units for the transferor retail pharmacy.

Reverse Distributor

Any firm which receives drugs for destruction, return credit, or otherwise disposes of drugs received from a registrant holding a permit and licensed to dispense or possess drugs.

Full credit for returned expired drugs

Define to include a cash refund or credit for the purchase price of the drug less a reasonable fee for handling, not to exceed $7\%$ of the total invoice price.

Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

Equipment requiring a prescription that can withstand repeated use, has an expected life of at least three years, is primarily used for medical purposes, and is appropriate for home use.

Designated representative

An individual approved by the Board as the supervisor or manager responsible for ensuring a DME supplier's compliance with all laws and regulations.

Third-party logistics provider

An entity that provides or coordinates warehousing or distribution on behalf of a manufacturer or wholesaler but does not take title to the drug.

Prison Clinic Pharmacy space requirement

The floor space required shall be a minimum of $150$ square feet.

Standard ward inventory

Lists of the kind and quantity of drugs kept at one or more hospital locations at all times for immediate patient needs.

Multi-drug single-dosing container

A customized package labeled by a pharmacy containing two or more solid, oral dosage form drugs to be taken by a specific patient at the same dosage time.

Hospital Pharmacy space requirement

Should be a minimum of $10$ square feet per hospital bed.

Remote Order Entry

Entry made by a Georgia licensed pharmacist from a remote location indicating the pharmacist has reviewed a patient-specific drug order for a hospital patient and entered it into the record system.

GDNA Special Agent classification

Must be a graduate of a recognized school of pharmacy, hold a current GA pharmacist license, and have practiced for at least two (2) years.

Certified pharmacy technician

A registered technician who has passed a Board-approved certification program, an employer training assessment, or is certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio

Shall not exceed one pharmacist providing direct supervision of four (4) registered pharmacy technicians, provided at least two are certified.

Pharmacy Observer

An individual at least $17$ years old shadowing a licensed pharmacist for the limited and exclusive purpose of education; restricted to no more than $8$ hours per day and $40$ hours total.

Electronic Signature

An electronically reproduced visual image signature or electronic data signature of a practitioner attached to or associated with an electronic prescription drug order.

Security Paper

Paper with security features like latent repetitive patterns and chemical void protection used to ensure a prescription is not subject to unauthorized reproduction.

Emergency C-II oral prescription quantity

The quantity prescribed and dispensed is limited to the amount adequate to treat the patient during the emergency period.

Dispensing modification of drug therapy

The adjustment of dosages, dosage schedules, or medications by a pharmacist under authority delegated and supervised by a physician.

Remote automated medication system (RAMS)

An automated mechanical system in which medication is stored and retrieved for a specific patient in a skilled nursing facility or hospice pursuant to a practitioner's order.

Low THC oil

An oil containing cannabidiol and not more than $5\%$ by weight of tetrahydrocannabinol, tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, or a combination thereof.

Predicate Retail License

A presently active Retail Pharmacy license attendant to whose licensure a Low THC Pharmacy Dispensary license has been applied for or obtained.
