Hypothermia and Hyperthermia

Treatment of Hypothermia

remove any wet clothing and wrap the person in blankets, towels, or newspapers; offer warm food or drink; do not use hot drinks, water or electric blankets

Treatment of Hyperthermia

remove any wet clothing and put dry clothing. Then place something cold in order to cool them down like an ice bath

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Illness

- headache

- dizziness

- fatigue/weakness

- temp greater than 103 F

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Stroke

sudden collapse, unconscious, flushed, hot skin, little to no sweat, core temp of 106 or higher

Signs and Symptoms of Heat Exhaution

nausea and vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, hyperventilation, muscle cramps and loss of coordination

Signs and Symptoms of Frost nip

- involves ears, nose, cheeks, chin, fingers, and toes

- occurs when there is a high win, severe cold, or both

- skin initially firm but then blisterse 24-72 hours after

Signs and Symptoms of Frostbite

damage to the skin and tissues caused by extreme cold. Redness and welling.
