Protective Factor
A condition that shields individuals from the negative physical and psychological impacts of stress.
Wellness
An active, ongoing process of becoming aware of choices and making decisions that lead toward a healthy and fulfilling life.
Physiological Development
The functional maturation of the body's systems triggered by regular exercise.
Cardiac Hypertrophy
The enlargement of the left ventricle of the heart caused by regular aerobic exercise, which increases efficiency in oxygen delivery.
Stroke Volume
The amount of blood pumped per beat by the heart.
Osteoblasts
The cells responsible for building new bone tissue, stimulated through resistance training.
Risk Factors
Habits or environments that increase the likelihood of poor health outcomes, such as a sedentary lifestyle or chronic lack of sleep.
FITT Principle
A deliberate framework for designing fitness routines consisting of Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type.
Frequency
The component of the FITT principle that refers to how many times per week an individual exercises.
Intensity
The component of the FITT principle that refers to the level of effort during exercise or the heart rate target zone.
Time
The component of the FITT principle that refers to the duration of each exercise session.
Type
The component of the FITT principle that refers to the category of exercise, such as Aerobic, Resistance, or Flexibility.
Karvonen Formula
A formula used to calculate the ideal heart rate range for effective exercise: THR=(MHR−RHR)×%Intensity+RHR.
Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
A variable in the Karvonen Formula calculated as 220−Age.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
The ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, and cooperate with others to achieve a shared goal.
Social Competence
The ability to handle social interactions effectively, including reading situations, building relationships, and achieving goals through collaboration.
Health Habit Inventory
A self-assessment tool used to capture baseline activity levels, sleep patterns, dietary habits, and stress triggers.
