What was the Weimar Reublic? Why did it end up failing?
The Weimar Republic was a democratic party in Germany, established after WWI. It ultimately ended up failing due to the war debt and political instability. It also ended mainly because democracy was new. Democracy is also a slow process, and the people of Germany were itching for something new and fast, which lead to the downfall of the Weimar Republic, and the rise of the Nazi party.
What was hyper inflation.
Hyper inflation was a period of increased skyrocketing prices within the market. It was a result of the Weimar Republic. It ended up decreasing
What was the treaty of versailles.
Germany ultimatley ended up taking full blame and resonsiblity for WWI, leading Germany into crippling debt. It required Germany to pay heavy reperations.
What was The Great Depression. What effects did it have on Germany?
The Great Depression severe global economic crisis. It was mainly due to the economic crisis and WWI, leading to unemployement, hyper inflation, and political instability. It also contributed to the rise of the Nazi party.
Facism. (Benito Mussolini)
Facism is defined as authotarian rule, extremist and nationalist radicalization. One existing party rules over everyone. There is a clear supression of rights of civillians, silence of the press, and misinformation.
Benito Mussolini came to power in Italy when people were unhappy with the results of WWI.
Nazism in Germany (Adolf Hitler)
Nazism is similar to facism, and stems off of it. Nazism is facism, but not all facism is nazism.
Adolf Hitler came to power in numerous ways, as he was the leading offical of the Nazi party. The Nazi party came to power after people were unhappy with the Weimar Republic, the treaty of versailles, and the outcome of WWI.
What was the enabling act?
The enabling act was an act to give full dictatorship to Hitler. he was able to pass laws without the Reichstag's approval.
SS (Secret Service / Gustapo)
The Gustapo or SS was a secret military service under the control of Adolf Hitler. They were responsible for taking down who expressed any sort of opposite opinion on Hitler or the Nazi party.
What were the Nuremberg Laws? How did they aim to dehumanize people?
The Nuremberg Laws were encated by the Nazis, and were laws used to legally opress Jewish people. They were designed to idenitfy who was considered Jewish to the nazi regime, and also established who was Jewish through marriage.
What is Anti-Semitism
Anti semitism is the prejudice and hostility toward Jewish people. A hatred toward Jews.
What was the Kristallnacht.
Kristallnacht - stands for “the night of broken glass”
Kristallnacht or the night of broken glass symbolizes a night in history where the nazi party terrorized Jewish owned buisnesses, jewish houses and sinogauges. They were burnt down, teared down and shattered. This was the turning point for the beginning of systematic oppression of Jewish people. it marked the beginning of what was soon to come.
What is appeasement?
Appeasment is giving into whatever the aggressor desires in hopes to maintain peace and resolve conflict.
What was the munich conference?
The munich conference was a conference held between Germany, France, the UK, and Italy, and a portion of Czechslovakia is given to Germany.
Japanese Expansion.
Japans invasion on Manchuria. The nanjing massacre.
A massacre that lasted several weeks, where Japanese soldiers unlawfully invaded the capital of China, Nanjing. Also known as the Rape of Nanking.
