Mitosis
Asexual reproduction where a parent cell duplicates to make 2 identical daughter cells.
Chromosomes
Condensed chromatin, each half of the X is called a chromatid.
Sister Chromatids
Two identical chromatids held together by the centromere.
Centromere
The point at which sister chromatids are held together.
Prophase
The stage where chromatin condenses into chromosomes, the nuclear membrane breaks down, and centrioles move to opposite poles.
Microtubules
Spindle fibers that develop from the centrioles during cell division.
Chromatin
DNA + protein, uncoiled and found during interphase.
Chromosome
Tightly coiled DNA, shown as an X.
Chromatid
Identical copies of the same chromosome joined together at the center.
Metaphase
The stage where chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell 'equator' and spindle fibers attach to the centromere.
Anaphase
The stage where spindle fibers shorten and split the centromere, separating sister chromatids into daughter chromosomes.
Daughter Chromosomes
Sister chromatids that have separated during anaphase.
Telophase
The stage where chromosomes become thinner, a new nuclear membrane forms around each group of daughter chromosomes, and the cell forms a nucleus again.
Cleavage Furrow
Area where indenting begins during telophase in animal cells.
Cytokinesis
Final stage of cell division where the cytoplasm divides.
Cell Plate
Structure that develops between daughter cells in plant cells during cytokinesis, eventually forming a new cell wall.
