What happens when asymmetric alkene reacts with hydrogen halide molecule
We can form two different isomers, depends on which carbon atom has the positive charge in the carbocation intermediate.
What is a carboncation intermediate
Its a unstable molecule that only exists for a short period of time , the stability of carbocation depends on how many alkyl groups are bonded to the carbon atom with the positive charge
An alkyl group is a group containing hydrogen and carbon atoms (e.g methyl or ethyl )
If positive carbon atom is bonded to one alkyl group, this is a primary carbocation
If positive carbon atom is bonded to two alkyl groups, it is a secondary carbocation (more stable, so exists for longer. more likely to form product (explains minor and major products)

What is markownikoff’s rule
When a hydrogen halide reacts with an asymmetric alkene, the hydrogen atom of the hydrogen halide is more likely to bond to the carbon atom which is attached to the greater number of hydrogen atoms.
