Southeastern Conference (SEC)
A collegiate athletic conference in the United States, formed on December 9, 1932.
SEC Formation
The SEC was formed when 13 schools left the Southern Conference due to geographic proximity.
SEC Expansion 1991
In 1991, the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina, increasing its membership to 12.
Texas A&M and Missouri Joining SEC
Texas A&M was accepted into the SEC in September 2011, and Missouri followed in November 2021.
SEC Membership Growth
Texas and Oklahoma agreed to join the SEC as the 15th and 16th teams, with official membership starting on July 1, 2024.
SEC Television Contracts
In 1994, the SEC entered a significant broadcasting contract with CBS and ESPN, subsequently renegotiated in 2008.
ESPN Contract Increase
In 2020, SEC negotiated with ESPN for a rights fee increase to approximately $325 million per year after CBS contract expiration.

Grant of Rights
