Determinant
A growth habit characterized by a finite growth period where a plant reaches a predetermined size, typically producing all fruit at once.
Indeterminate
A growth habit where a plant continues to grow throughout its life, producing fruit and vegetation simultaneously.
Semi-determinant
A growth habit that is an intermediary between determinant and indeterminate growth.
Growing Degree Days (GDD)
An index of heat accumulation over time used to estimate crop development progress.
Phloem-mobile elements
Nutrients that are easily transported in the plant from older to younger parts.
Immobile elements
Nutrients that are not easily translocated within the plant and deficiency symptoms appear first in younger leaves.
Macronutrients
Essential elements required by plants in larger quantities, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
Micronutrients
Essential elements required by plants in smaller quantities, including iron, zinc, and boron.
Nutrient deficiency symptoms
Physical signs in plants indicating a lack of essential elements, often characterized by specific growth abnormalities.
Essential elements
Elements necessary for normal growth in plants, necessary for seed production, or part of a plant constituent that is essential.
