Cognition

Concepts
Categories or groupings of linguistic information, images, ideas, or memories that help organize experiences and information.
Prototype
The best example or representation of a concept.
Natural Concepts
Concepts created through direct or indirect experiences from the environment.
Artificial Concepts
Concepts defined by a specific set of characteristics, such as geometric shapes.
Schemata
Mental constructs consisting of clusters or collections of related concepts that help organize information.
Role Schema
Assumptions about how individuals in certain roles will behave.
Event Schema
A cognitive script that describes the sequence of actions and behaviors expected in certain situations.
Semantic Memory
A type of long-term memory involving the capacity to recall words, concepts, and factual information.
Cognitive Psychology
The field of psychology dedicated to examining how people think and the processes involved in cognition.
