Why do we need to use chromatography
to separate out mixtures.
How do we carry out this practicle?
Get filtered paper
USING A PENCIL draw a straight line at the bottom of filtered paper
add spots of different inks at the line that was drawn.
Get your solvent and put the filtered paper in a position where it is dipped into solvent.
Wait for results.
How does chromatography seperate mixtures
Different dyes will move up the paper at different timings.
why do we use a pencil to draw out the line?
Because pencils are insoluble to the solvent.
How would we calculate the rf value?
Distance travelled by solute / distance travelled by solvent
