Hypotonic
Concentration is low on the outside so water moves into the cell to widen the cell and lower the concentration in the cell.
Hypertonic
High concentration on the outside of the cell. Water moves out of the cell to lower the concentration.
Isotonic
Solution is already in equilibrium. Water moves in and out equally.
Passive Transport
No energy required
Facilitated diffusion
Protein involved, diffusion meaning high to lower, following the concentration gradient. For example, water uses aquaporins.
Active transport
Uses energy, can also be facilitated.
