Anode target
The component of the x-ray tube that contains the focal spot.
Off-focus radiation origins
Radiation that is the product of electron interactions occurring within three components of the x-ray tube: the cathode assembly, vacuum envelope, and anode disk.
Patient tissue outside collimated borders
An image appearance caused by off-focus radiation interacting outside the primary collimated area.
Decreased spatial resolution
The loss of structural sharpness in a radiographic image caused by off-focus radiation within the primary beam being out of alignment with the primary beam.
Decreased contrast
The loss of visually distinct brightness levels resulting from off-focus radiation within the primary beam.
Primary x-rays
The type of x-rays that create diagnostic information in radiography.
Values of interest
The classification that a computer may mistakenly assign to off-focus radiation during the histogram process.
Post-processing shuttering
A technique used to correct the appearance of off-focus radiation by removing unwanted image areas such as bright white regions and collimator shadows.
