Cell
The smallest unit of life and is the basic structural and functional unit of living organisms.
Organelle
Subunits found within cells that carry out specific jobs to maintain the functions of the cell.
Prokaryote
A smaller, simpler type of cell lacking membrane-bound organelles and a nucleus.
Eukaryote
A larger, more complex type of cell with membrane-bound organelles, including a distinct nucleus.
Cytology
The study of cells.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of a stable internal environment in living organisms.
Apoptosis
The process of programmed cell death.
Cell Theory
The theory stating that all living things are made of cells, cells are the basic units of life, and cells arise from existing cells.
Bacterial Cells
Prokaryotic cells that are typically unicellular and can be found in various environments.
Viruses
Entities that contain genetic information but do not carry out chemical reactions required for energy or sustain life without a host.
