• LANDSLIDE in favor of Roosevelt (D)

• people blamed Hoover (R) for the GD.

• Hoover —→ local and state response

• Roosevelt——> strong federal response

• Up until this point black voters had been voting (R) because of Lincoln and the Abolitionist movement.

New Deal

• FDR’s plan to reverse the GD

• Similar to TR’s Square Deal

• FDR’s wife and distant cousin

• First First Lady to be active in politics

• she was his eyes and ears on the ground

  • would keep FDR informed on what was going on.
