Piano Roll
A graphical representation of music notes, showing how they are arranged over time.
Half Step
The distance between two adjacent notes.
Whole Step
The distance between two notes that have one note in between them.
Octave
The interval between one musical pitch and another with double its frequency.
Scale
A set of musical notes in ascending or descending order.
C Major Scale
A scale consisting of the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B.
Nashville Number System
A system that assigns numbers to notes in a scale for easier reference.
Chord
A group of typically three or more notes sounded together as a basis of harmony.
Major Chord
A chord formed using the first, third, and fifth notes of a major scale.
Minor Chord
A chord formed by lowering the third note of a major chord by a half step.
Chord Progression
A series of chords played in sequence.
Augmented Chord
A major chord with its fifth note raised by a half step.
Major Two Chord
The second chord in the scale that is normally minor but played as a major chord.
Minor Four Chord
The four chord in a key, normally major, played as a minor chord.
Minor Five Chord
The five chord in a key, normally major, played as a minor chord.
Major Three Chord
The three chord in a key, normally minor, played as a major chord.
Chord Triad
A basic chord formed by three specific notes from a scale.
