what are ADL’s

activities of daily living; eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, using the toilet, and moving

what are the 6 principles of care?

independence, privacy, safety, infection control, communication, and dignity

what does scope of practice mean?

tasks you are permitted to do, defined by the state and employer

• Measurements (temperature, pulse, blood

  pressure, respirations, weight, aurine output)

  • Activities of daily living (ADLs)

  • Movement (assisting the person in and

  out of the bed or chair, moving a person up in bed,

  positioning in bed, assisting with ambulation and

  exercises.

sub-acute care

• care provided in a special unit of a hospital or nursing home

• drug therapy, physical rehabilitation or complex wound care

• usually less than 30 days

long term care

• care meeting resident’s medical, personal and social

  needs over an extended time

• 3-6 months or 1-2 years
