What is anatomy?
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body and its parts.
What is physiology?
Physiology is the study of how the body and its parts function.
What are the levels of structural organization in the human body, from simplest to most complex?
Chemical level, cellular level, tissue level, organ level, organ system level, and organismal level.
What is a cell?
The basic structural and functional unit of all known organisms.
Gross macroscopic anatomy
The study of large body structures visible to the naked eye
Regional anatomy
Looks at all structures in a particular area of the body
System anatomy
Looks at just one system
System anatomy
Looks at just one system
Surface anatomy
Looks at internal structures as they relate to overlying skin
Microscopic anatomy
Deals with structures too small to be seen with naked eye
Cytology
Study of cells
Histology
Study of tissue
Developmental anatomy
Traces structural changes throughout lifespan
Embryology
study of development changes that occur pre-birth
Principle of complementary
The structure of the body (anatomy) dictates the function (physiology) and both are interconnected and directly related
