Colon
introduces an explanation, a list, or a dramatic summary statement.
What comes before the colon must be a complete standalone sentence. Anything can come after it
Example- Society is facing an unprecedented crisis: total environmental neglect."
Semicolon
A semicolon connects two complete, closely related sentences without using a joining word (like and, but, or so).- both must be full sentences
Example-Politicians offer empty promises; citizens demand immediate action."
Em dashes
Dashes add drama, energy, or an informal side-thought to your writing.
Single Dash (Dramatic Pause/Pivot): Used at the end of a sentence to add a surprising conclusion.
Example: "We were promised a brighter future for our children — what we got was utter neglect."
