What is energy?

A quantity that measures the ability to cause change.

Joule (J).

What is one joule defined as?

The energy needed to push with a force of one newton over a distance of one meter.

What is work in physics?

The transfer of energy resulting from applying a force over a distance.

How do you calculate work?

By multiplying the force by the distance an object moves in the direction of that force.

What type of energy does a ball at the top of a hill have?

Potential energy.

What type of energy does a moving object have?

Kinetic energy.

What does the Law of Conservation of Energy state?

Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another.

What is an example of potential energy?

A piece of wood in a fireplace has energy because it can produce heat and light.

One Calorie equals 4,187 joules.
