Aid
Assistance given in various forms such as money, food, or infrastructure development, provided by governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations)
Typically charities that operate on a non-profit basis, such as Oxfam.
Voluntary Aid
Funds collected from the public by charities like Save the Children through activities like charity shops and fundraising. Often the first form of aid to arrive in emergencies.
Emergency/Short Term Aid
Immediate assistance provided in the form of food, shelter, and clean water, intended to reduce immediate deaths following events like natural disasters.
Bilateral Aid
Aid given directly from the government of one country to the government of another, often used for development projects like reducing malaria or improving infrastructure.
Multilateral Aid
Funds given to large international organizations like the World Bank or UN, which in turn fund development projects.
Fair Trade
A system ensuring equality for Low Income Countries (LICs) by guaranteeing fair prices for their produce.
Development Goals
17 goals set by the UN in 2015 to be reached by 2030 to end poverty and promote global well-being, such as achieving gender equality.
Long Term Development Aid
Aid given over a sustained period to address poverty and improve factors like education and health through long-term community projects.
