CONTEXT

The open door policy was a policy created in 1899 to ensure equal trade access with china to limit foreign imperialism by specifically European powers and Japan, however, due to japans expansionist practices during this time, like the Russo-Japanese war which a military conflict between Russia and Japan trough 1904-1905, it directly contracted the open door ideals. This grew rivalry between the U.S and Japan. After this event, The United states response was to impose economic sanctions and freeze Japanese assets, which cut of Japan’s ability to buy goods from the U.Sr in 1941. This pushed Japan to attack Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. From there, only a day after, the U.S joined WWII
