Nouns
Naming words.
Proper nouns
Nouns that name people and places, days of the week, months of the year (e.g., George, Sally, Bristol, Venezuela, Wednesday, January).
Concrete nouns
Nouns that name objects, materials and animals (e.g., pen, carpet, sugar, oxygen, dog, weasel).
Abstract nouns
Nouns that name ideas, feelings and qualities (e.g., education, beauty, anger, happiness, intelligence).
Collective nouns
Nouns that name groups (e.g., team, group, herd).
Verbs
Words that are often called "doing words".
Dynamic verbs
Verbs that refer to actions or events (e.g., run, read, drink, dance, describe, analyse).
Stative verbs
Verbs that refer to states, mental processes or sensations (e.g., sleep, think, believe, feel, possess, love, exist, be).
Verb test
A method to test if a word is a verb by trying adding -ing or fitting it into the sentence She/he/it โฆ.s.
