1. At least 25 years old

2. Citizen of the US for 7 years

3. Live in the state for which you are chosen at time of election

Qualifications for Senate

1. At least 30 years old

2. Citizen of the US for 9 years

3. Inhabitant of the state for which you are chosen

Powers delegated to Congress

1. Tax and spend national debts and general welfare

2. Regulate commerce with foreign nations, states, and tribes

3. Coin money, regulate value, make money

4. Declare war, grant letters of Marque and Reprisal, make rules concerning captures

5. Raise and support armies/navy

Powers denied to Congress

1. Suspending privilege of habeas corpus

2. Declaring guilty of a crime and punish without fair trail

3. Passing Ex Post Facto: making action illegal after already being committed

4. Lay taxes on duties or articles exported from individuals

Presidential Qualifications

1. at least 35 years old

2. natural-born citizen of the US

3. resident within the US for at least 14 years

Powers of the Pres

1. Commander-in-Chief of the nation’s military

2. Veto laws made by Congress and send it back

3. Make treaties and appoint government officials, Senate must approve.

1. Involves federal laws passed by Congress, Constitution, or treaty

2. Involves different states —> “no home-court advantage”
