Lenz’s Law

The induced emf in a wire loop is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux through the loop.

The induced emf in a wire loop is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux through the loop.

Faraday’s Law

Same as Faraday’s Law except he added a minus sign gives the direction of the induced emf and indicates that the induced emf always gives rise to a current whose magnetic field opposes the original change in flux. N is the number of coils cutting the field lines

Conservation of Energy Law

Because the magnetic field opposes the motion. Work needs to be done to either the coil or magnet. It is this work which is being converted into electrical energy

Maxwell’s Equation 1 - Gauss’ Law (1773)

Maxwell’s Equation 1 - Gauss’ Law (1773)

An electric Charge q produces an Electric field E

5
New cards

Maxwell’s Equation 2 - Gauss’ law in magnetism

Maxwell’s Equation 2 - Gauss’ law in magnetism

Magnetic monopoles can never be found in nature.

Maxwell's Equation 3 - Faraday’s Law of Induction (1831)

Maxwell's Equation 3 - Faraday’s Law of Induction (1831)

A changing magnetic field induces an electric field.

7
New cards

Maxwell's Equation 4 - Ampère-Maxwell Law

Maxwell's Equation 4 - Ampère-Maxwell Law

A changing Electric field induces a magnetic field.

Malus’ Law

Describes how the intensity of polarized light changes when it passes through a polarizer based on the angle of light.
