The fertilised egg implants in the uterus and develops into a foetus.

The pituitary gland releases follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
FSH causes an egg to mature inside a follicle in the ovary.
Oestrogen is released.
Oestrogen causes the uterus lining to rebuild.
What is the role of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)?
FSH stimulates the maturation of an egg inside a follicle in the ovary.

There is a surge in luteinising hormone (LH) and FSH.
LH causes the follicle to rupture.

What happens during the luteal phase?

What is menopause?
Menopause is when a female no longer experiences the menstrual cycle.
What happens biologically during menopause?
Ovulation stops.

Fertility ceases (the female can no longer become pregnant).

When does menopause usually occur?
Usually between the ages of 45 and 55.
How is menopause confirmed?

What is endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the endometrium (uterine lining) grows outside the uterus.

How does endometriosis cause pain?
The tissue outside the uterus breaks down like the normal uterine lining during menstruation.
