Memory
The persistence of learning over time through the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information.
Recall
A measure of memory in which the person must retrieve information learned earlier. (Fill in the blank test)
Recognition
A measure of memory in which the person identifies items previously learned. ( A multiple choice test)
Relearning and Ebbinghaus
A measure of memory that assesses the amount of time saved when learning material again.
Overleaening
When you keep practicing or studying something even after you’ve already mastered it.
Encode
The process of getting information into the memory system
Storage
The process of retaining information over time.
Retrieval
The process of getting information out of memory storage.
Long-Term Memory
The relative permanent and limitless archive of the memory system. (Includes: knowledge, skills, and experiences)
Short-Term Memory
Activated menu that holds few items briefly before the information is stored or forgotten.
Sensory Memory
The immediate very brief recording of sensory information in the memory system.
Working memory
Short term memory that adds conscious, active processing of incoming auditory & visual information from sensory memory, & info retrieved from LTM.
Central Executive Functions
Controls information flow from and to other components of working memory.
Phonological Loop
A sup-system responsible for storing and manipulating auditory and verbal information.
Visuospatial sketchpad
A sup-system that handles visual and spatial information.
Long-Term Potentiation (LTP)
An increase in cells firing potential after brief, rapid stimulation.
