Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
A chronic, systemic autoimmune disease primarily affecting the synovial joints, leading to inflammation, joint damage, and potential disability.
Inflammatory Arthritis
Marked by chronic inflammation of the synovium presenting as swelling, redness, and warmth of joints.
Seropositive RA
Blood tests reveal the presence of RF and/or anti-CCP antibodies, indicating an autoimmune response.
Seronegative RA
RA that lacks RF and anti-CCP antibodies.
Incidence of RA
The number of new cases in a time frame (usually per year).
Prevalence of RA
The total number of existing cases at a given time.
Common Symptoms of RA
Symmetrical joint pain and swelling, morning stiffness >1 hour, fatigue, malaise, rheumatoid nodules, weight loss and low-grade fever.
ESR
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate; blood tests used to detect inflammation.
CRP
C-reactive protein; blood tests used to detect inflammation.
X-rays (RA)
Joint space narrowing and erosions seen in imaging.
Ultrasound/MRI (RA)
Detects synovitis and inflammation in imaging.
DMARDs (Methotrexate)
First-line medication for RA treatment.
NSAIDs
Used for symptom relief in RA treatment.
Joint Protection (RA)
Avoid excessive stress on inflamed joints and use splints or assistive devices to reduce strain.
