Stage

Platform that supports the microscope slide

Condenser

Focuses/concentrates light onto the specimen

Iris diaphragm

Controls the amount of light reaching the specimen

Illuminator / Light source

Provides light for viewing the specimen

Coarse adjustment knob

Moves the objective/stage rapidly for rough focusing; usually used on low power

Fine adjustment knob

Makes tiny adjustments for sharp, precise focus

Arm

Supports the upper parts of the microscope; used when carrying it

Base

Supports the entire microscope

Power switch

Turns the light/electrical system on and off

Light intensity control

Adjusts how bright the light is
