LMP
Check for the ____ of the Pregnant woman before perform the Leopold's maneuver
Leopold's Maneuver
A systematic method of observation & palpation to determine the presentation, fetal position, attitude, fetal lie & degree of engagement
Presentation of the Fetus
The part of the fetus which occupies the lower pole of the uterus/birth canal/ maternal pelvis is called
Cephalic
The normal birth position
Cephalic Vertex
the most common and favorable position for a baby to be in during late pregnancy and delivery. It means the baby is positioned head-down, with the back of their head (occiput) facing the front of the mother's pelvis.
Cephalic Brow
The fetus is positioned headfirst, but the fetal head is extended, with the brow (forehead) presenting rather than the top of the head (vertex) or face
Cephalic Sinciput
The fetus is positioned head-first in the birth canal, but the head is not fully flexed
Cephalic Mentum
The fetal chin (mentum) being the presenting part, rather than the more common occiput (back of the head)
Breech
Refers to a baby positioned with its buttocks or feet first in the birth canal, rather than the head, which is the typical delivery position
Cesarean
when the baby is at a breech position, it's possible to deliver them in what special procedure?
Complete Breech
The baby is positioned with their buttocks presenting first, and both hips and knees are bent, so the feet are near the buttocks. This means the baby's knees are bent and drawn up towards their chest, and their feet are positioned near their bottom.
Transverse Lie
When a baby is sideways — lying horizontal across the uterus, rather than vertical
Frank Breech
type of breech presentation where the baby's hips are flexed (bent), but the knees are extended (straight), so the baby's buttocks are the presenting part, and the legs are extended upwards with the feet near the baby's face.
Frank Breech Position
This is the most common type of breech presentation.
Footling Breech
a type of incomplete breech, one or both of the baby's feet are the presenting part, meaning they are the first to come out during delivery, instead of the baby's buttocks.
Longitudinal Presentation
a fetal lie where the baby's spine is parallel to the mother's spine, meaning the baby is positioned either head-down or breech within the uterus.
Oblique Presentation
the baby's spine is neither parallel (longitudinal) nor perpendicular (transverse) to the mother's spine, but rather diagonal or slanted
Fetal Lie
refers to the relationship of the longitudinal axis of the fetus to the long axis of the maternal spine.
Fetal Position
The location of the point of direction of the fetus, with reference to the pelvis of the mother as viewed by the examiner. The position may be right or left, anterior or posterior
Right, Left, Occipitu, Posterior, Anterior, and Transverse
The fetal lie may be in what positions? (RLOPAT)
Fetal Attitude
The relation of the different parts (head and body) of the fetus to one another
Flexion
Universal Fetal Attitude (Good Attitude)
Extension
Bad Fetal Attitude
Fundic Height
To measure the fetal station, start at the ___ at the Pubic Symphisis
Fetal Engagement
means maximum transverse diameter of the presenting part passes through the pelvic brim
Dorsal Recumbent Position
What is the position for Mothers when performing the Leopold's Maneuver
Hypotension
Watch out for _ when putting the mother in DR Position.
Centimeters
The fundic height is in what metric unit?
Symphysis Pubis to the Fundus
Measure the Fundic height from the to the ___
120 - 160 Bpm
Normal fetal heart tone
20th week
The Fetal Heart Tone is audible in an ordinary stethoscope in what week?
Fundal Grip
It is done by palpating the fundal area to determine which part is located in the uterine fundus.
Umbilical Grip
It is done by palpating and identifying the fetal back in relation to the right and left side of the mother
Back of the Fetus
The FHT is determined at which side of the fetus?
Smooth and Firm
The fetal back should be?
Round and Firm/ Head
If you've palpated _ in the fundus using the Fundic Grip, it's the _
Soft / Buttocks
If you've palpated _ in the fundus using the Fundic Grip, it's the _
Pawlick
It's used to determine if the presenting part has entered the pelvic.
Fetal Engagement
The pawlik's grip is used to determine the?
Movable
When the baby's head is _ using the Pawlik's Grip, the it's Not engaged
Not Movable
When the baby's head is _ using the Pawlik's Grip, the it's engaged
Descend
When the baby's head is engaged and not movable, it's ready to?
Pelvic Grip
It's done by assessing the descent of the presenting part by palpating the cephalic Prominence
1 week
1 cm of the Fundic height is equivalent to _ AOG
Estimated Due Date
calculation from LMP, can be done with obstetrical wheel, with a calculator or using Naegele's rule
+9 + 7
Constant formula if LMP is from January to March
-3 +7 +1
Constant formula if LMP is from April to December
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
hormone produced by the placenta to sustain pregnancy by stimulating the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone
HCG
Detectable in the PTs
1-3 Mos
1st trimester
4-6 mos
2nd trimester
7-9 mos
3rd trimester
3rd Trimester
Do the Leopold's maneuver during what trimester
