What are metals?
Metals are elements that are good conductors of heat and electricity, generally have a shiny appearance, and are malleable and ductile.
What are non-metals?
Non-metals are elements that are poor conductors of heat and electricity and typically have a dull appearance, are brittle, and cannot be hammered into shapes.
Examples of metals
Iron, aluminum, copper, gold, and silver.
Examples of non-metals
Carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen, and oxygen.
What is ductility?
Ductility is the ability of a material to be stretched into a wire.
What is malleability?
Malleability is the ability of a material to be hammered or rolled into thin sheets.
What is an alloy?
An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals, or a metal and a non-metal, that has enhanced properties.
Difference in state at room temperature
Most metals are solid at room temperature, while non-metals can be gases (like oxygen) or solids (like sulfur).
Uses of metals
Metals are used in construction, manufacturing, electrical wiring, and jewelry.
Uses of non-metals
Non-metals are used in fertilizers, chemicals, water treatment, and gas applications.
