Sutures
Joints between the bones of the skull; includes coronal, sagittal, squamosal, and lambdoidal sutures.
Fontanel
Soft spot on an infant's skull formed by the incomplete fusion of cranial bones, such as the frontal fontanel.
Frontal bone
The bone located in the forehead region; features include supraorbital ridge, foramen, margin, and sinus.
Occipital Bone
The bone located at the back and base of the skull; includes foramen magnum, occipital condyles, and external occipital protuberance.
Temporal Bones
Bones located at the sides and base of the skull; contains various structures such as the styloid process and external auditory canal.
Sphenoid Bone
A complex bone in the skull that contributes to the eye socket and base; features include greater wings, lesser wings, and sella turcica.
Ethmoid Bone
A bone located between the eyes that forms part of the nasal cavity; includes the crista galli, cribriform plate, and olfactory foramina.
Coronal Suture
The suture that runs across the skull from ear to ear, separating the frontal bone from the parietal bones.
Sagittal Suture
The suture that runs along the top of the skull, separating the left and right parietal bones.
