What is a bicameral parliament?

A bi cameral parliament is a government with two houses, in Australia’s case it is the Senate and the House of Representatives that work together to pass bills and lawsto create legislation. This structure allows for a balance of power and representation of different interests within the government.

What is a referendum?

A referendum is when the Australian people vote on a change or addition to the constitution to make the constitution more civilised and modern, changing from the biased ways of the past, referendums aren’t always successful though.

What is the process of a bill?

A bill is proposed and is passed by absolute majority through multiple moving of houses and senate. Members of parliament then prepare their yes and no statements based upon their view of the subject. The Australian Electoral Commission then sends out pamphlets explaining both the yes and no statements. Everyday Australians then participate in a national vote where the ultimate vote of everybody is then tallied up. Then a majority and 4 or more states need to vote yes, and then the bill finally needs to be signed by the governor-general.

Are we a commonwealth or a republic?

We did once have a referendum to become a republic but it was strongly opposed and we are still a commonwealth
