Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

passageway through the cell that has no ribosomes, makes lipids and membranes

nuclear membrane

has pores, surrounds the nucleus, and allows molecules to enter or leave nucleus

Golgi apparatus

sorts, packages, and ships new materials and wastes out of the cell

nucleolus

made of RNA and produces ribosomes

cell wall

rigid outer covering made of cellulose, found in plant cells

lysosome

contains enzymes that help digest materials

chromatin

long, thin strands of DNA and histone proteins

plasma membrane

controls movement into and out of cell

prokaryotic cell

simple cell with no membrane-bound organelles

eukaryotic cell

complex cell with specialized membrane-bound organelles

centrioles

functions during cell division, in animal cells

vacuole

stores food, water, and waste

cilia

many, short, projections from the cell surface used for movement or gathering food, "hair-like"
