what does rpd ususally consist of?

  • replacement teeth (artificial teeth) attached yo pink or gum-coloured plastic base (denture base) which is connected by metal framework (clasps) that hold denture in place in mouth

basic process of rpd construction

  1. take impression

  2. model preparation

  3. use dental surveyor (determin height of contours with common path of insertion)

  4. framework (determining and adapting position of clasps)

  5. waxing and setup of artiifical teeth

  6. Flasking (investing of cast and waxed denture in flask to make sectional mould used to form acrylic resin denture base)

    • mix gypsum + water

    • lower part of flask filled first. Put model in it (max 1 cm over edge of flask)

    • soap water, isodent and other isolaters after hardening

    • put upper part and fill with plaster

    • put flask in boiling water for 5 minutes after hardening

    • then open and remove plasticised base plate and wax

    • isolate

  7. polymerize

    • mix acrylic resin

    • stages:

      • wet sand phase

      • sticky (thread) phase

      • plastic (working) phase

      • elastic (gummy) phase

    • put acrylic resin in empty space, close flask and press it

    • high temp polymerization cycle (long or short)

  8. after cooling remove denture from gypsum

  9. cleaning and polishing
