Prenatal Care
A type of preventive healthcare aimed at providing regular check-ups to treat and prevent potential health problems during pregnancy.
Initial Interview
The first interaction where rapport is established to gather information about the woman's feelings and fears regarding her pregnancy.
Health History
A comprehensive assessment of the pregnant woman's past medical history to establish baseline health data.
Demographic Data
Basic information including name, age, address, and health insurance details collected during the initial consultation.
Chief Concern
The primary issue discussed during the first visit; includes determining the last menstrual period and any prior pregnancy tests.
Obstetric History
An account of past pregnancies using the GTPAL system for categorization of pregnancy outcomes.
Systemic Assessment
A thorough evaluation of the woman's physical health through a head-to-toe assessment.
Gravida
The total number of pregnancies a woman has experienced, including currently ongoing pregnancies.
Naegele's Formula
A method for calculating the Estimated Due Date (EDD) based on the last menstrual period.
AOG
Age of Gestation, measured using the fundal height of the uterus to reflect weeks or months of pregnancy.
Leopold’s Maneuver
A systematic way to determine fetal position and presentation by abdominal palpation.
Labor History
Details about the onset, frequency, and strength of contractions gathered during assessments of a woman in labor.
APGAR Score
A quick test performed on a newborn to assess Appearance, Pulse, Grimace response, Activity, and Respiration.
Fetal Distress
Signs indicating that a fetus is under stress, often assessed through abnormal heart rate patterns.
Lochia
Vaginal discharge after childbirth consisting of blood, mucus, and uterine tissue.
Episiotomy
A surgical cut made in the perineum during childbirth to enlarge the vaginal opening.
Postpartum Blues
Mild emotional disturbances experienced in the first few days postpartum, typically resolving within two weeks.
Indwelling Foley Catheter
A flexible tube inserted into the bladder for continuous urine drainage.
Suctioning
A procedure used to clear the airway by removing mucus and obstructions from patients.
Oxygen Saturation
The percentage of oxygen bound to hemoglobin in the blood, typically measured using a pulse oximeter.
