Scale Selection Rule
The practice of choosing the largest convenient scale for axes to ensure all readings fit on the graph paper.
Axes Labelling Rule
Each axis must show what is being measured and the units being used.
Point Plotting Symbols
Small x’s or dots with circles used to mark data points on a graph.
Best Fit Line
A straight line or smooth curve drawn closest to most points when they do not form a perfect straight line.
Best Fit Line Balancing (Criterion i)
A requirement where the same number of points are above the line as below the line.
Best Fit Line Balancing (Criterion ii)
A requirement where the points not precisely on the line are at the same distances from the line.
Gradient Calculation Points
New points that ALWAYS lie on the drawn line, used specifically to calculate the gradient.
Graph Title
A required descriptive label identifying the content of the graph.
Gradient Formula
Gradient=x2−x1y2−y1
cm3
The unit of measurement used for Volume in the provided graph exercises.
kg/m3
The unit of measurement used for Density in the provided graph exercises.
N
The unit of measurement (Newton) used for Force in Question 4.
