Chalazion
A common chronic inflammatory condition of the Meibomian glands due to obstruction.
Retrolental fibroplasia
A developmental disorder occurring in premature infants exposed to high doses of oxygen therapy.
Retinitis pigmentosa
An inherited condition affecting the retina, leading to loss of rods and cones, night blindness, and possible total blindness.
Sympathetic ophthalmia
A bilateral diffuse granulomatous uveitis following penetrating injury to one eye.
Diabetic retinopathy
An important cause of blindness related to glycemic control, characterized by changes in retinal blood vessels.
Hypertensive retinopathy
Changes in the retinal arterioles due to chronic high blood pressure, including infarcts and arteriolar narrowing.
Uveitis
Inflammation of the uvea, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid.
Trachoma
A bacterial infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, prevalent in underdeveloped countries, leading to blindness.
Macular degeneration
Age-related degeneration of the macula, causing bilateral central visual loss in elderly populations.
Retinal detachment
The separation of the neurosensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium, which may occur spontaneously or due to trauma.
Pterygium
A growth of fibrovascular connective tissue on the conjunctiva, typically extending onto the cornea.
Pinguecula
A yellowish raised growth on the bulbar conjunctiva resulting from UV exposure.
Stye
An acute suppurative inflammation of the eyelid glands, commonly known as a hordeolum.
