  • Racial equality clause: Rejection caused Japan’s alimentation from other powers,

  • economic crisis in Japan (overpopulation)

  • Raised tariffs in US, Cut off immigration to US.

    All of these lead to rationalised and increase nationalism which would lead to WW2

What impact did the Treaty of Versailles have of Japan?

Pros:

  • more land ( pacific islands, German territory)

  • recognition on the world stage as a major power, Gains a seat at the League of nations

Cons:

  • rejection of the Racial equality clause: fuelled resentment in Japan and made them lead towards militarism
